July 2010 Austin Landis selected to attend 2010 RBS Achievers of the Year
Austin Landis, 17, from the First Tee of The Children's Course was one of ten participants selected to attend this event held in Pittsburgh. The RBS Achievers of the Year Awards recognizes deserving students for accomplishments in their daily lives while overcoming difficult circumstances. The scholarship awards are not based on academic performance or exceptional golf skills. The program rewards young people that exhibit The First Tee Nine Core Values while demonstrating leadership, service and teamwork. Austin was lucky enough to meet Jack Nicklaus (pictured below) and receive a $2,000 scholarship. Congratulations to Austin!

OGA GOLF COURSE TO BE FIRST TEE PROGRAMMING AFFILIATE
January 2008 – Barb Trammell, Chief Executive Officer for the Oregon Golf Association today announced that the OGA Golf Course would become a Programming Affiliate of The First Tee of The Children’s Course®.
The OGA Golf Course serves as the headquarters for the Oregon Golf Association, one of six amateur golf associations in the country that owns and operates a golf course. “One of the original objectives for the Association in owning its own golf course was to be a good member of the golf community and serve as a catalyst for junior golf activities,” noted Trammell.
July 5, 2007 – The Children’s Course is proud to announce Sarah Wood has been selected the 2007 Western Region RBS Achiever of the Year. This honor is sponsored by The Royal Bank of Scotland and The First Tee. As one of 14 regional semi-finalists, Sarah will receive a $1,000 scholarship award. If she is selected as the national RBS Achiever of the Year she will be awarded a $10,000 scholarship.
Sarah, along with her mother, Sharon, will travel to Philadelphia August 9th-12th for ceremonies celebrating this year’s winners. She will receive a plaque commemorating her scholarship at the RBS Awards Banquet. Other activities include historical tours of the City of Brotherly Love and a Philadelphia Phillies baseball game. All expenses for the trip are paid by Royal Bank of Scotland and The First Tee.
Sarah attributes much of her success to learning the life-skills in The First Tee program. For example, she says learning how to set goals “helped in school with two sports and being able to keep grades up and make it to practices and matches.”
Sarah’s has a tremendous sense of responsibility as well; it is illustrated through her volunteer work here at The Children's Course. For the past three summers, she has assisted with our
“Discovery Golf” programs for 4, 5, and 6 year olds.
